BERKVELDT

About

about

Berkveldt is a Rotterdam-based audiovisual art studio founded by Noëlle Ingeveldt and Juriaan van Berkel. Their work is rooted in scientifically-based research and explores the interplay between humanity and the natural world, delving into the complex relationship and tensions that exist between the two.

Through extensive desk- and field-based research, Berkveldt incorporates practical, local, and personal knowledge to provide new insights into complex social issues. Their generative and participatory research methods involve collaboration with various disciplines, and their immersive installations and audiovisual stories offer a unique perspective on the world.

Berkveldt's work challenges our perceptions of reality by using magical realism to offer a different angle on societal and cultural challenges. By incorporating non-human perspectives, they invite viewers to explore the fantastical and the magical within the everyday world.

They offer a unique vision of the future, challenging dominant paradigms and encouraging us to rethink our relationship with nature. The work of Berkveldt has been exhibited, amongst others, at Bio Art Laboratories, Dutch Design Week, TENT Rotterdam, Geldersdoek, Museum Jan Cunen, and the IJsselbiënale. Currently, Berkveldt is current recipient with the talent development grant of the Stimuleringsfonds.

Noëlle Ingeveldt, graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie and achieved her Master of Arts at M.I.A.R.D Piet Zwart Instituut / Willem de Kooning Academie. She teaches at the HKU at the Bachelor Design for Change and Innovation.

Juriaan van Berkel graduated from the University of Applied Sciences in Amsterdam and achieved his Master of Arts at Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht, School of Creative Transformation. He has worked as a creative strategist for various international organizations.
